Witch and Familiar - Matthew Venus
This block print is the first of what will soon be a series recreating antique woodblock prints which present various scenes related to the historical depiction of witchcraft. In the first image you can see the hand carved block used for creating the print.
This is a piece depicting a male witch riding upon the back of his familiar. Those who have seen the label for our Bestia oil may recognize the source image.
We plan to have prints and other related merchandise available in our shop in the coming month.

I have always been a much bigger fan of black and white art than I have color work. For everyone else who shares my tastes, here are the original black and white versions of the 7 main pieces from my year long thesis project. My thesis was an investigation into witchcraft, paganism, and the occult. The final colorized versions of these pieces all came out well, but there is something about the black and white versions that doesn’t come across in the color versions.
All of these pieces were produced between August and December of 2013. They are all 12”x18” mixed media on illustration board or paper.
Digital prints of all these pieces are available at www.etsy.com/shop/workweak
My name is Jonathan González and I live in Puerto Rico and my goal for the moment as an artist is to bring occult and esoteric knowledge to the island, which lacks richness and diversity on the subject. This piece fits Taino (puertorican native people) symbolism with sacred geometry. My work aims to change peoples indoctrinated views on reality with the hopes of improving acceptance, knowledge and social relations.
